Iron Sharpens Iron

A 52-Week Journey Through Scripture & Life

"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

Proverbs 27:17 (ESV)

The Mission

Two Men. One Year. One Word.

A devotional built for two men who have walked with Christ together for four years — husbands, fathers, and Thursday morning brothers in arms. Over 52 weeks, move through the whole arc of Scripture from creation to new creation, always asking how it points to Jesus Christ.

How It Works

Three Questions Every Week

Mon – Wed

What does it say?

Read the passage slowly with a specific focus question each day.

Wednesday

Why was it written?

Watch the Bible Project video. Context changes everything.

Thursday

How does it point to Christ?

Meet, go deep, journal your answers, share your Thursday notes.

Fri – Sat

How will I live it?

One concrete life challenge before next Thursday. Tell your brother.

The Two of You

A Kiwi & an Aussie.
One Calling.

Josh

Sydney, Australia · Olympic Swimmer, Sydney 2000

You know what elite discipline and staying the course when everything hurts looks like. You've traded the pool for something even harder — faithful fatherhood and a godly marriage. The same grit that drove you to an Olympic final is what God wants in you as a student of His Word.

His Kiwi Brother

New Zealand · 4 Years Walking Together

Two nations, one calling. Across the Tasman but on the same mission. Your different perspectives will sharpen how you both read Scripture. God's Word speaks in every accent — and two men walking together in Christ is its own kind of miracle.

About This Plan

What it is, how to use it, and where it goes.

One Story. Four Quarters.

The Full Arc of Scripture

The Bible is not a collection of separate moral stories. It is one story — God redeeming his people through his Son. Every book is a chapter. Every author is a witness. This plan traces that arc week by week, always answering three questions: what does this say, why was it written, and how does it point to Jesus Christ?

Translation

Why ESV?

The English Standard Version stays close to the original Hebrew and Greek — word for word rather than thought for thought. When you're studying why an author chose a particular word, or how a passage connects across Testaments, ESV rewards that close reading. For memory verses, the precision means you're storing the most accurate version of the text.
